Biography
Flávio Gusmão (Flavio Gusmao) is a Brazilian Cinematographer and Director based in Tokyo, Japan. He is originally from Recife, Brazil with a strong background in Narrative Feature films works. As cinema student, Flavio had the opportunity of work on film sets with Claúdio Assis ( Tiger Award, International Film Festival Rotterdam), Hilton Lacerda (Grande Prêmio do Cinema Nacional), Marcelo Gomes (Un Certain Regard, Cannes", Kleber Mendonça Filho (Oscar Nominated, Cannes Jury's Prize), Camilo Cavalcanti, (Nominated Bright Future, International Film Festival Rotterdam) . He also worked directly as Assistant for Pedro Sotero (Best Photography (ROJO), San Sebastian IF 2018) and Walter Carvalho (Brazilian Cinematography Academy, Best Cinematography). In Japan, Flávio still working on Narratives, recently shooting Minami Kaho and Kippei Shiina, for the feature "House Rules" (Best Feature Comedy - Sedona Film Festival) and the Netflix Documentary Fugitive: The Curious Case of Carlos Ghosn, which he signs as Director of Photography: Japan Interview Unit. He also started a commercial tour that brought him to closer to direction, having recently signed as Director for a Branded-Documentary Campaign for Zenith Watches Japan/New York Times with Ryoma Takeuchi.
